Def. A managed Chromebook is a Chromebook device that is set up and managed by a school or company.  

Management is done via the Admin console whereby admins can enforce policies, set up Chrome features for users, provide access to internal VPNs and Wi-Fi networks, force install Chrome apps and extensions, and much more.

If a Chromebook is managed you’ll see a managed icon in the status area in the lower right-hand side of the screen when signed into the device.
