Def. Spear phishing is a type of phishing scam whereby the attacker already knows information about their target, thereby luring them in with a false sense of trust (for example, ‘based on your recent trip to Greece, we know you’ll enjoy this’).

As the victim here believes that the ‘attacker’ is actually some entity they can trust (ex: their travel agency) they trustingly divulge sensitive information such as bank account numbers, login credentials, credit card details, etc.

Phone spear phishing has an added component, ‘the phone’ which is the means attackers use to seek out their victims.
