Within 0.29 seconds, the searcher found about 1,480,000,000 results. Most of them on the first page refer directly to specific apps for creating deepfake nudes or recommend the best ones.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is alarming &#8211; the number of minors using these apps has been increasing since last year. Usually, female classmates turn into the victims. Once created, fake sexually explicit pictures begin to circulate, and the school life of the exploited girls becomes unbearable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>From this post, you&#8217;ll find out:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Why we should be concerned about deepfake apps used by students<\/li>\n<li>How do they impact children&#8217;s safety<\/li>\n<li>What&#8217;s our solution to avoid these apps at your school<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How Serious is the Problem?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In December 2023, two middle school students<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/3\/8\/24094633\/deepfake-ai-explicit-images-florida-teenagers-arrested\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were arrested<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Miami<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They had <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">doctored nude images of their younger female classmates using a deepfake app. This was the first case of arrest and criminal charges for AI-generated nudes in the US.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In February 2024, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">eighth-grade students were accused of using an AI tool to generate fake explicit images of teenage girls from their classroom and sharing them at a school in Beverly Hills. The f<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ive most involved students were <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/tech\/tech-news\/beverly-hills-school-expels-students-deepfake-nude-photos-rcna142480\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">expelled from school<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A series of similar incidents in US schools opened a discussion about the new risks of artificial intelligence in education. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/tech\/internet\/deepfake-jenna-ortega-fake-nude-image-meta-ig-instagram-facebook-rcna141023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2023<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, more deepfake, sexually explicit videos were published online without consent than in all previous years.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Fake Porn Still Unpunished<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Artificial intelligence tools became available at the click of a mouse just last year. The law has not kept up with rapidly developing technologies. \u201cDeepfake laws\u201d to punish non-consensual, sexually explicit AI pictures haven\u2019t been established yet. This creates a grey area for crimes related to fake porn, including fake child porn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: initial; font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, 'Noto Sans', sans-serif, 'Apple Color Emoji', 'Segoe UI Emoji', 'Segoe UI Symbol', 'Noto Color Emoji';\">The\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, 'Noto Sans', sans-serif, 'Apple Color Emoji', 'Segoe UI Emoji', 'Segoe UI Symbol', 'Noto Color Emoji';\" href=\"https:\/\/ocasio-cortez.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/rep-ocasio-cortez-leads-bipartisan-bicameral-introduction-defiance-act-combat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DEFIANCE Act,<\/a><span style=\"color: initial; font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, 'Noto Sans', sans-serif, 'Apple Color Emoji', 'Segoe UI Emoji', 'Segoe UI Symbol', 'Noto Color Emoji';\"> introduced by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in March 2024, gives hope for a change in US legislation and justice for victims.<\/span> With this bipartisan act, victims of \u201cdigital forgery, in which false images have been created based on their appearance using AI, will gain the right to civil action.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDeepfake pornography is a form of digital sexual violence. It violates victims&#8217; consent, autonomy, and privacy. Victims face an increased risk of stalking, domestic abuse, loss of employment, damaged reputation, and emotional trauma,\u201d said Omny Miranda Martone, CEO of the Sexual Violence Prevention Association (SVPA).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Children, Victims of Deepfake Apps<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: initial; font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, 'Noto Sans', sans-serif, 'Apple Color Emoji', 'Segoe UI Emoji', 'Segoe UI Symbol', 'Noto Color Emoji';\">Deepfake nude apps join another challenge related to artificial intelligence in school:\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, 'Noto Sans', sans-serif, 'Apple Color Emoji', 'Segoe UI Emoji', 'Segoe UI Symbol', 'Noto Color Emoji';\" href=\"https:\/\/gatlabs.com\/education\/blog\/academic-integrity-how-to-navigate-the-challenges-in-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the integrity of student assignments<\/a><span style=\"color: initial; font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, 'Noto Sans', sans-serif, 'Apple Color Emoji', 'Segoe UI Emoji', 'Segoe UI Symbol', 'Noto Color Emoji';\">.<\/span>\u00a0Both push to seriously reflect on the ethical aspects of AI technologies and their impact on children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sexual abuse, with the help of various AI-based apps, can happen to anyone. Their victims have included ordinary teenagers and celebrities such as<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2024\/jan\/30\/taylor-swift-ai-deepfake-nonconsensual-sexual-images-bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> singer Taylor Swift<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/tech\/internet\/deepfake-jenna-ortega-fake-nude-image-meta-ig-instagram-facebook-rcna141023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">actor Jenna Ortega<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, a company manipulated and used pictures of the 16-year-old \u201cWednesday\u201d star to promote their deepfake nude app on Facebook and Instagram. After the press intervention, Meta suspended the ads. The app is still available online, although not in the official app stores.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"reddit-embed-bq\" style=\"height: 500px;\" data-embed-height=\"740\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Damnthatsinteresting\/comments\/yow68i\/deep_fake_celebrity_impressions\/\">Deep Fake Celebrity Impressions<\/a><br \/>\nby<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/user\/ButterscotchNed\/\">u\/ButterscotchNed<\/a> in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Damnthatsinteresting\/\">Damnthatsinteresting<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/embed.reddit.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"UTF-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An example of a deep fake video using celebrity faces\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it comes to judging minor perpetrators, we must remember that K12 students are still in the process of growing and learning. Many of them are probably unaware of all the consequences of generating and sharing fake pictures (or any kind of harmful content) based on the identities of real people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teachers and parents should find out about these incidents as soon as possible to engage in discussing them with students. It would be even better if they could monitor student devices and school networks in real time. It helps to prevent and detect the use of these kinds of apps.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>How to Prevent Deepfake Nudes at School?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than twenty girls were abused by their classmate, who created nudes using artificial intelligence <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/eu.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/education\/2024\/03\/28\/ai-nudes-generate-chaos-at-schools\/72976869007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at a high school in Illinois<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He shared the fake pictures via his school email address.
