Again, this can be tricky when you\u2019re not face-to-face in a traditional classroom environment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400;\">So, how can we engage our students, check for understanding, and assess things remotely?<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400;\">In this chapter of our\u00a0<a style=\"font-size: 16px;\" href=\"https:\/\/gatlabs.com\/education\/blog\/online-teaching-guide-in-google-workspace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Complete Guide to Online Teaching in Google Workspace<\/a> series, we&#8217;ll show how to just do that.<\/p>\n\n<h3><strong>1. Let them Lead the Way\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\nYou&#8217;d be surprised at how involving students in the teaching process can improve their overall engagement.\n\nBy giving students a choice, they\u2019ll learn, become creators, and gain more confidence. In return, they may take ownership of their tasks and ultimately <strong>&#8221;stay engaged&#8221;<\/strong>.\n\nOne thing you may consider is providing\u00a0<strong style=\"font-size: 16px; font-style: normal;\">choice boards<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0for students.<\/span>\n\nA choice board is similar to a menu, where you create different tasks or choices for students to pick from. Ensure Lessons Are Actually Engaging in the Digital Context<\/strong><\/h3>\nAn engaging lesson is designed around creativity, choice, and interaction.\n\nYour Google tools and apps can help you provide engaging content for lessons, and so can other third-party tools.\n\nFor example:<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"student engagement in Google Classroom\" src=\"https:\/\/gatlabs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/EdTech-Tools.jpg\" alt=\"student engagement in Google Classroom\" width=\"540\" height=\"567\" \/>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 25px;\"><!-- \/wp:post-content --><\/span>\n\n<!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} -->\n<h3><strong>3. Measure Student Engagement Using Google Workspace Data<\/strong><\/h3>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 25px;\"><!-- \/wp:heading --><\/span>\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nOne of the best things about teaching in Google Workspace is that you can get data on almost every important interaction.\n\nFrom there, you can measure things like student engagement even better than you would in the physical classroom. <span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 25px;\"><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/span>\n\n<!-- wp:image {\"align\":\"center\",\"id\":39468} -->\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 25px;\"><!-- \/wp:image --><\/span>\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph --> One of the first areas you&#8217;ll want to check to assess student engagement is <strong>Classroom attendance.\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 25px;\"><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/span>\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n\nBy attendance, we don&#8217;t mean the simple act of logging in and out.
