# How to test GAT Shield or Teacher Assist defined rules

[**GAT Shield**](https://gatlabs.com/knowledge/tech-tips/gat-shield-overview/) allows a [Google Workspace Admin](https://workspace.google.com/) to test the defined rules and see how they change with time for the particular user.

This option is only available to users who have migrated from the standard version of[Site Access Control](https://gatlabs.com/knowledge/tech-tips/site-access-control-for-chrome-browsing/) in GAT Shield to the new [Site Access Control](https://gatlabs.com/knowledge/tech-tips/block-site-using-site-access-control/) version.

## Test defined rules

To test the defined rules, navigate to **GAT Shield > Site Access Control > Rules > click on Test Rules **

![Test rule - select the "test rule" button and filter for user and site to check if is blocked by any rule or not](https://gatlabs.com/knowledge/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/2025-06-23-16_13_42-Shield.png)

The **Test Rules**section enables you to verify if a specific URL/Website is blocked or not for the selected user.

Enter data in each of the button fields.

- **Website**– Enter the URL you want to check.
- **User** – search for the user you want to check.
- **Check** – select to check the result and see if any Shield rule blocks the end-users.

![in the fields enter user to check if site is blocked for as well as the site to test and click on check button](https://gatlabs.com/knowledge/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/2025-06-23-16_19_12-Shield.png)

### Result

The results will show whether the site is **allowed, blocked, or warned**by any rule. You can see what rule the user is allowed, blocked, or warned.

### Additional Options

In the **Additional Options** section, you can configure more specific checking requirements:

- "**Time when the rule is active**" - Check if the rule is active for the selected date and timezone.
- **Chromebook device** - Check the rule that applies to the Chromebook device
  - Enable or disable the check for the **Chromebook** device
- **Teacher Assist** - test if the page/URL is blocked by the Teacher Assist product
  - Enable or disable the check for the **Teacher Assist** tool
- **Check** - click to check the rule
