{"id":8286,"date":"2023-09-06T11:03:21","date_gmt":"2023-09-06T10:03:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gatlabs.com\/knowledge\/?post_type=docs&#038;p=8286"},"modified":"2026-08-05T11:53:18","modified_gmt":"2026-08-05T10:53:18","password":"","slug":"teacher-assist-admin-settings","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/gatlabs.com\/knowledge\/tech-tips\/teacher-assist-admin-settings\/","title":{"rendered":"Teacher Assist Admin Settings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gatlabs.com\/education\/products\/teacher-assist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teacher Assist<\/a> is a tool that allows the Teachers of Google Classrooms to view and control the browsing activity of their students in real-time.<\/p>\n<p>By default, the tool can be used by any user of the <a href=\"https:\/\/workspace.google.com\/intl\/en_ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google Workspace<\/a> domain who is a <strong>Google Classroom Teacher<\/strong> or <strong>Super Admin.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Admins can set up and use Admin controls over the Teacher Assist tool.<\/p>\n<h2>Teacher Assist Admin Settings<\/h2>\n<p>The Admins can log in to <strong>Teacher Assist<\/strong> and will be able to see all the <a href=\"https:\/\/edu.google.com\/workspace-for-education\/classroom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google classrooms<\/a> of the domain.<\/p>\n<h3>1. General<\/h3>\n<p>The Admin can set up the timer for the sessions in Teacher Assist. The timer can be activated (enabled) and deactivated (disabled) depending on the general school rules and regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Navigate to <strong>Teacher Assist &gt; Configuration &gt; General\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Modify timer for classroom\u00a0 &#8211;<\/strong>Enable the session timer to be modifiable by the Teachers. Set up a default timer for classroom sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Maximize on tab lock &#8211; <\/strong>Maximized window &#8211; To lock the tab, you can set whether the window will be maximized (fill the screen) or keep the current size unchanged. Access rights<\/h3>\n<p>The Admin can set up different Access rights for users of Teacher Assist.<\/p>\n<p>Those include different areas of the tool. Select access type, scope of users, and give (create) the access rights.<\/p>\n<p>Navigate to <strong>Teacher Assist &gt; Configuration &gt; Access Rights<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"f_322e08d3-d2a1-4051-abaf-f2426b663342_0\" class=\"q-item q-item-type row no-wrap q-item--dense q-item--clickable q-link cursor-pointer q-manual-focusable q-manual-focusable--focused\" tabindex=\"-1\" role=\"option\" aria-selected=\"false\">\n<div class=\"q-item__section column q-item__section--main justify-center\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>All<\/strong> &#8211; Full administrative access. Grants the user or user group all available access types and privileges across the entire application.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Access to students&#8217; drive<\/strong> &#8211; Student Drive Visibility. Authorizes teachers to view and access files within students&#8217; Google Drives for educational monitoring.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Students&#8217; drive can be viewed<\/strong> &#8211; Privacy Control \/ Visibility Lock. A restrictive permission used to safeguard user privacy. If this role is disabled for a specific student, teachers cannot view their files, even if the teacher possesses the global Access to students&#8217; drives permission.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Create &amp; edit Teacher Assist Classroom<\/strong> &#8211; Custom Class Creation. Allows users to create and configure non-Google (TA) classes. This permission is used to restrict and manage who can introduce custom courses into the system.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Edit Teacher Assist Classroom<\/strong> &#8211; Owned Class Management. Enables users to manage and update student records within classes where they are designated as the owner.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Allow co-teachers to edit in Google Classroom<\/strong> &#8211; Co-Teacher Management. Permits authorized co-teachers (users listed as instructors but who are not the primary course owners) to edit course details. This policy applies strictly to Google Classroom-integrated courses.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Access to reports<\/strong> &#8211; Analytics Access. Grants the user comprehensive access to the reporting, statistics, and data analytics sections of the application.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Teacher<\/strong> &#8211; Explicit Teacher Access. Explicitly forces a Teacher view and access level for the user. While the system automatically detects teachers based on active course assignments, this role manually overrides and ensures constant access to teacher tools.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Principal<\/strong> &#8211; Principal \/ Auditor Access. Provides passive administrative oversight. Users with this role can monitor live sessions and view active operations in real-time but do not have permissions to modify any data or configurations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Auditor<\/strong> &#8211; Application Administrator.
