GAT Labs has been preparing for these changes for the last 2 years. <\/span>This change is mandatory<\/b> and will affect nearly all extensions deeply integrated with Chrome, including Shield.<\/span><\/p>\n Please migrate before the 1st of July 2024 to ensure your domain will be up-to-date with Chrome updates.<\/b><\/p>\n In this document, we will cover the steps to install the <\/span>Teacher Assist extension<\/span><\/a>. It\u2019s a tool that allows Google Classroom teachers to view and control their students within the classroom environment via the Chrome Extension for your <\/span>Google Workspace<\/span><\/a> environment.<\/span><\/p>\n Firstly,\u00a0 this is unavoidable; you will have to deploy a new version of GAT Shield and Teacher Assist.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n We are making this process seamless and providing a migration tool to help you move any configuration you may have in your existing GAT Shield to the new GAT Shield and Teacher Assist.<\/span><\/p>\n GAT Shield is a prerequisite extension that must be installed alongside Teacher Assist.<\/b><\/p>\n Teacher Assist is a Chrome extension that the Super Admin of the domain must install via the Google Admin console.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Below, we will cover how to deploy the Teacher Assist extension to your users.<\/span><\/p>\n Important:<\/em> Teacher Assist<\/b> – can be installed only for specific Organization Units – such as Students OU<\/span><\/p>\n You can also click<\/span> here<\/span><\/a> to open that page.<\/span><\/p>\n Copy values for the extension that you are installing – from Teacher Assist!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n When the ID and URLs are added, click on the “<\/span>Save”<\/b> button<\/span><\/p>\n When the Extension is saved, select the ‘Force install’ policy to force installation in the browser. You may also tweak other settings for your needs.<\/span><\/p>\n Copy values for the extension that you are installing, in this case, Teacher Assist<\/strong><\/p>\n To access and view the Extension ID and URL, navigate to <\/span>Teacher Assist > Admin > Extension deployment<\/b><\/p>\n Copy the <\/span>ID<\/b>, <\/span>URL<\/b>, and <\/span>Policy for an extension<\/b> from here and use them above.<\/span><\/p>\n Note:<\/strong>\u00a0Depending on your\u00a0firewall setup<\/strong>, there might be restrictions that do not allow<\/span> traffic to Teacher Assist. To install the extension, you need to whitelist the following domain<\/strong>: https:\/\/extension.gattool.com<\/a><\/p>\n Additionally, need to whitelist domains based on region.<\/p>\n For US (Global) domains (no prefix) \u2013 US (default) region<\/p>\n For EU domains (eu-<\/strong> prefix) \u2013 EU region<\/p>\n For UK domains (uk-<\/strong> prefix) \u2013 UK region<\/p>\n When the Teacher Assist extension is deployed, the end-users must be logged into a Google Chrome browser with School\/Domain accounts.<\/span><\/p>\n The extension will appear under their Chrome extensions list.<\/span><\/p>\n Finally, the Students’ activity will be displayed for the Teachers to see in the Google Classroom sessions\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We recommend enabling settings in the Google Admin console for the domain to prevent<\/strong> Users (students<\/strong>) from interfering with the Teacher Assist extension<\/strong> and any extensions.<\/p>\n Enable these settings in\u00a0Devices<\/strong>\u00a0>\u00a0Chrome\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0>\u00a0Settings\u00a0<\/strong>>\u00a0Users & browsers settings<\/strong><\/p>\n Some of these settings are\u00a0mandatory<\/strong>.<\/p>\n On the above-selected page, scroll down and navigate to the\u00a0Apps and Extensions<\/strong>\u00a0area, find the\u00a0Task Manager<\/strong> settings, and switch it to Block users from ending processes with the Chrome Task Manager<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Description:<\/strong> Task Manager can be used to tamper with the Chrome browser’s normal operations.<\/p>\n The following settings are highly recommended<\/strong> for schools using enrolled Chromebooks.<\/strong><\/p>\n These settings prevent<\/strong> students from bypassing the network firewall and installing Android apps like VPNs and other web browsers on their Chromebooks.<\/p>\n On the same page, scroll down to User Experience > Multiple sign-in access\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Sign in to secondary accounts<\/strong><\/p>\n Scroll up on the same page to the User experience > Developer tools.<\/strong><\/p>\n In\u00a0“Configuration<\/strong>“, set the option to “Not Allow”<\/span>.<\/p>\n Description:<\/strong> Developer tools can be used to disable extensions. Google also recommends disabling these tools in most cases. This can be disabled<\/strong> for Student OUs only.<\/strong><\/p>\n The following three options are recommended for schools with enrolled Chromebooks. These settings prevent students from bypassing or tampering with the GAT Shield and Teacher Assist extension<\/p>\n Scroll to the Security<\/strong> tab<\/p>\n Find and apply the settings<\/p>\n Scroll down further to the Content<\/strong> tab<\/p>\n Description:<\/strong> Disabling screenshots will cause problems with the GAT Shield Alerting functionality.<\/p>\n When all the settings are adjusted and set up, click on the blue Save<\/strong> button on the bottom left.<\/p>\n We recommend that these options be configured on your domain for your Chrome devices. Not all are mandatory.<\/p>\n From the Google Admin console, navigate to Devices > Chrome > Settings > Device settings\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n In the left sidebar, select the Organizational Unit that contains your Chromebooks<\/strong>, then configure the following policies to match these values..<\/p>\n In the Enrolment and access setting, configure the settings<\/p>\n On the same page, scroll down to Sign-in settings<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n It could be a case where Teacher Assist is deployed domain-wide to all users, and yet the data is only shown on ChromeOS devices. You can check this setting.<\/p>\n Adjust the settings for Chrome management for signed-in users<\/p>\n Navigate to Devices > Chrome > Settings > Users and browsers settings > Chrome management for signed-in users<\/strong><\/p>\n Set it up to: Apply all user policies when users sign in to Chrome, and provide a managed Chrome experience.<\/strong><\/p>\n Referring to: Manage user profiles on Chrome browser<\/a>, and View and configure apps and extensions<\/a><\/p>\n When the Teacher Assist extension is installed, every student who logs into their Chrome Browser with their School credentials will have the extension automatically synchronized.<\/p>\n The Chrome user cannot override this setting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Google change on Manifest Version 3 (MV3) All Chrome-based browsers are affected by changing the extension standard called Manifest Version 2 (MV2) to one called Manifest Version 3 (MV3).
