About the School
International School of Busan (ISB) is a small but mighty school in Korea’s second-largest city, Busan. As a CIS-certified IB World School with 350 students and growing, ISB has been in the town for the past 40 years and serves a diverse community of families from shipping, tech, military, and sporting goods industries.
ISB uses Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals license. Elementary students use Chromebooks or iPads provided by the school. For Secondary students, the school follows the BYOD model.

About Dale Plotzki
For 5 years, Dale Plotzki has been the Whole School Technology and Learning Innovation Coordinator at the International School of Busan. He’s a Canadian international school teacher with over ten years of teaching and learning experience in schools in Peru and Ecuador. He is a Google Certified Innovator and Trainer and an ISTE Certified educator.
Dale aims to help the school create ‘digitally literate students’ who are skilled, ethical, and who create meaningful work when using technology for learning. He’s one of the few people at school who works fully across all divisions, and as they are a small school, his favorite part of the job is getting to know every one of the students and supporting them in their unique educational journey.
Challenges ISB Faced Before Implementing GAT Tools
Before using GAT, the International School of Busan had no tools for audits or oversight of the Google domain. The school relied only on the features of the Google Admin Console, which provided limited visibility.
ISB was always on the lookout for data loss incidents due to frequent staff rotation, which is common in international schools. Sometimes, outgoing teachers unintentionally deleted essential data. Moreover, the data transfer process was irregular and incomplete. As a result, long-departed staff accounts occasionally still had access to sensitive information, creating data privacy risks.
How GAT Labs Solved These Issues
Implementing GAT tools in 2022 helped Dale to identify and rectify ongoing problems with sensitive data loss, data management, and lack of overview of the entire domain.
Guaranteed Student Curriculum Control
ISB has sought to maintain consistency and reduce learning disruptions for students moving from one international school to another. This is also required by the Council of International Schools. With the adoption of GAT, ISB has greatly enhanced the overall ability to manage and maintain the school’s guaranteed curriculum much more tightly. Dale can now seamlessly recall and transfer large data sets from outgoing to incoming teachers and students to ensure learning continuity.
Improved Data Loss Prevention
With the GAT+ auditing functionalities, Gokul is able to find and extract in-depth outputs on the school domain and report them to the leadership team. For example, he can view how the files are being exposed to external users outside the domain and track them, which wasn’t possible prior to GAT.
Based on that data, the principal can make better decisions to increase student academic performance, improve classroom management, and strengthen cybersecurity and data privacy at school.
Improved Compliance Monitoring
According to the Personal Information Privacy Act (PIPA), Korean schools must protect user data. GAT Labs allows ISB to monitor the whole domain and ensure that only authorized people can see the school data. With GAT+, Dale can periodically scan the domain for outside users and files shared externally and verify who should keep specific permissions.
More Secure Classrooms
Since the rise of ChatGPT, ISB has used Teacher Assist from GAT Labs to secure the online testing environment. Dale explains how it improves students’ independent learning process:
“This tool has become instrumental in ensuring our students show their unaided learning when completing online summations. It’s also great for just general classroom accountability. Often, teachers will display the teacher view to the whole class on the screen so that everyone can see that all students are on task. This creates a self-reinforcing loop of positive digital citizenship”.
How This School Has Been Transformed Thanks to GAT Labs
Using the GAT toolset yielded outstanding results for the International School of Busan, upgrading the school’s data management, cybersecurity, and operational efficiency.
GAT Labs significantly reduced Dale’s workload, allowing him to identify and move essential files much faster than previously. He can now easily manage large-scale data transfers and shares, find and un-share shared-out files in bulk, and find data quicker than with the Google Admin Console.
Cybersecurity practices such as real-time browsing monitoring with GAT Shield and recurring scans for unauthorized access with GAT Unlock make the school’s online learning environment more safe, organized and purposeful:
