Pioneering Cloud Security Since 2009
Where We Started
GAT Labs began its journey in 2009 as a division of Baker Security and Networks (BSN). We became Ireland’s first Google Workspace partner and one of the first in Europe.
Our first project was with the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), a large sports body looking to modernize communication. They wanted to remove local servers and eliminate maintenance contracts. We partnered with Google to deploy Ireland’s first cloud-based email solution.
The deployment was a success, but Google Workspace lacked visibility tools. Admins couldn’t see who had access to what, or how information was shared. In response, we built the General Audit Tool (GAT), the first auditing and security tool in the Google Workspace Marketplace launched in June 2010.
GAT started as a free tool and quickly gained traction. We added Drive sharing audits and later became the first to audit Gmail content creating, GAT+, our core auditing platform.
Demand grew quickly. By 2014, infrastructure costs led us to spin out a new company General Audit Tool Ltd.
In 2015, we introduced paid plans, and by 2016 we were fully independent. Since then, GAT Labs has seen consistent growth, driven by customer feedback and fast product iteration.

What Makes Us Different
We didn’t try to do everything. Instead, we focused deeply on Google Workspace building tools that solved real problems, fast.
While others pursued breadth, we invested in depth:
✔️ First to audit Drive and Gmail at scale
✔️ First to extend Workspace auditing into browser behavior
✔️ First to build real-time, admin-approved access (GAT Unlock)
✔️ Now expanding beyond Chrome, with Shield+ coming to Edge
We’ve stayed close to our customers, listening, iterating, and delivering tools that reduce workload, enhance visibility, and improve security.
What’s Next
With the release of Shield+, GAT Labs is expanding its reach, across browsers, industries, and security use cases. This includes bringing enterprise-grade features like continuous identity verification (3FA), advanced phishing detection, and real-time control across devices.
Our AI research continues to evolve into new products, not just for education, but also for enterprise automation, compliance, and security workflows
Our Commitment
GAT Labs will continue building tools that:
✔️ Reduce manual effort
✔️ Strengthen visibility and compliance
✔️ Improve response times in critical events
✔️ Respect user privacy and security
✔️ Scale from 10-user schools to 100,000-user enterprises
We’re proud of where we started and focused on where we’re going.
