GAT Shield is a Chrome extension that, when deployed to the users, allows Admins to apply and control the end-users Chrome browser.
One of the GAT Shield’s control features is allowing Admins to Disable Meet chat/calls for the end users.
This feature can be particularly useful in education environments where the Admin wants to disable Google Meet chat and calls. Admins can also enable this rule based on Time and Scope setup.
Apply Rule #
To create a rule, navigate to GAT Shield (1) > Configuration (1) > Communication Access (3)
Select the available options:
- Block Google Chat (4)
- Block Google Meet (5)
Select the Scope (6) to whom the rule will be applied to and Update (7) the configuration.
Scope #
You can use different options to apply the Scope.
Go to the Scope section (1) and expand it to see all the options (2). Select the users to whom the rule will apply.
- User
- Group
- Organization Unit
- Include sub org. units
- All users
Time Restriction #
The time restriction option allows Workspace Admins to select the time frame within which they apply the rule.
NOTE: When the ‘Time restriction’ expires, the rule will be reverted, and Chat or Google Meet will be available again as usual.
Important Note: If Time Restriction is not configured but the Scope is set to All users (default setup) and the “Block Google Chat/ Block Google Meet” is selected/enabled, the rule will be applied for all users all the time until the rule is ‘Deactivated’ by all options being ’empty’.
