How to Set Up and Manage Email Auto-Forwarding in GAT+

Why set up email auto forwarding? #

As a Google Workspace administrator, you may want to configure automatic email forwarding for some users in your domain for convenience, compliance, or security purposes.

How to set up email auto-forwarding #

To set up email auto-forwarding, navigate to GAT+ (1) > Users (2) > Email info (3)

Apply a filter (4) to retrieve the users whom you wish to set auto-forwarding for . E.G. use the filter definition Name – equal – John Smith (5).

Once ready, click on the Apply (6) button to trigger the search based on the criteria defined in the filter.

When you run the filter, GAT+ returns the required result (1).

To create an auto-forwarding request, navigate to the right side of the record row where the Actions column exists.

Click on the arrow down button to display available options (2).

From the drop-down menu, select the Set auto forwarding option (3).

Available options for end-user mailbox:

  • No changes
  • Mark emails as read
  • Archive emails
  • Delete emails

Once all is set, Send Request (3) to the Security Office for approval.

Because this action may violate the privacy of others, it must be used with extreme caution and carefully considered. Therefore, to enable this feature, GAT+ requires the consent from another individual within the organization – Security Officer, not the requesting party. This is the default security design for this feature.

"Request has been sent to Security Officer" message is displayed.

Once request is sent to the Security Officer for review, they will get an automated notification via email, from where they can access GAT+ and review the request.

An automated email received by Security Officer allows you to click the link that redirects to GAT+ Security Officer section where the request can be reviewed and approved.

Once approved, email auto forwarding is set up as configured.

How to review email auto-forwarding #

To verify it, navigate to GAT+ (1) > Users (2) > Email Info (3) > Auto forward to column (4)

Remove auto forwarding #

Removing existing automatic email forwarding is also simple.

To do so, navigate again to GAT+ (1) > Users (2) > Email Info (3)

Identify the user you wish to remove the auto forwarding from by applying relevant filter definition (4).

To create an auto-forwarding request, navigate to the right side of the record row where the Actions column exists.

Click on the down arrow button to display available options (2).

From the drop-down menu, select the Delete auto forwarding option (3).

Email auto forwarding is being deleted:

"Auto forwarding has been deleted" message appearing, and the blank "Auto forward to" column. Meaning the auto-forwarding has been removed.
